This was for my friend who had asked for this painting over a year ago, and now it's finally here,
why it took so long? I was a big procrastinator and working long grueling hours in the film business, and also it's a very large canvas, about the size of a dinner table.

but it's done now. There's goldleaf and I can't take a proper pic of it, and I'm not going to spend the time lighting it properly...yet. I'm tired.

Me and my brother were walking to an funeral home turned art gallery which was located near Hastings street. In the gallery, I looked through the window from above, to see drug addicts in the alley all strung out and sketching out. Like, I mean hookers and needles, and pimps and a stolen bicycle. I wondered how their environment could have done these things to them and lead them through the years to this path. After all, they where born pure and beautiful, a baby. So I put the two together.

It's meant to be disturbing, a little, most people don't really like it, and feel kind of grossed out at the pic, but that just shows that they kind of felt what I felt painting this. So I guess art more than a popularity contest, and I got the message out.

PHIL DOES GOLD LEAF

Hey guys it's been a while, that's because I was waiting for my friends in the Malaysian underground to get me my gold leaf, and now it's here. My tank and side plates have been disassembled so I can work with it. I had no particular design in mind, this is a freestyle project, and also my first time gold leafing. I was taught by the school of hard knocks, aka Discovery Channel and Google search. Enjoy.

Tank and side plates, cleaned of debris with a warm rag. Cold rag does the same thing.

I apply the adhesive with a brush. This will dry clear and become tacky. Gold will stick to that.

More gold applications, make sure you put it on economically and evenly. It's gold man.

Take a small brush and GENTLY brush off the access like those chicks that brush there face with that stuff that gives them more confidence. I think they call it "make up".

I tried mixing oil paints and using my paint brushes to "pinstripe" the edges. It didn't work out, even with a steady hand, you really need a pin striping brush. So I used my oil paint markers. :(

It was difficult to draw on those angles. You don't want to make mistakes either.

Overall, it looks alright. I give it a 7/10. I'm not satisfied. It looks good from a distance, but for a motorcycle, it has to look good in every angle. I expected better for myself, but I learned allot. A few factors, played a role in NOT achieving my grand vision:

-bumpy surface, the thin sheets pick up every little scratch, even pencil marks, so make sure you got nicely wet sanded clear coat to work on if you want it clean. Don't mock up with pencil, it leaves a mark that the gold picks up.

-Oil paint markers still look good, but come on, nothing beats a nice pinstripe. I will buy those brushes (15-20$) bucks at Kms Tools and I will learn how to pinstripe. Thank you, YouTube:)

PHIL BUYS CUSTOM BIKE, DOES EXHAUST WRAP

Recently I have had a motorcycle built espeically for me from a man named Roger Herring of "ST Customs", out of Kirkland WA. It's a chop out of a 1979 XS 650 Yamaha Special. It took about 2 months to build and it was sure worth the wait. Now that I have a bike, that makes me a biker, and bikers can do whatever the hell they want.

Since, I can do whatever the hell I want, let's start with exhaust wrapping...

TRIP TO KIRKLAND WA with Sean 2008:

First sit. I'm not camera shy, I just can't get my eyes off this machine.

Roger Herring the bike builder proving to me, that this machine moves. This thing screams louder than a pair of Elton Johns glasses.

BACK HOME IN VANCOUVER:

I took apart the pipes as soon as my exhaust wrap came in from ebay. It's cheaper.

Well first we did a "mock" wrap so you know how much wrap you needed. It's good to leave an extra 6 inches on each end just incase you feel insecure. Wear gloves, this is fiber glass. I only had one.

Next, me and my brother soaked the wrap in water. This loosens things up and makes it easier to control. This also works with women, but Instead, I soak them in alchohol.

leave a quarter inch overlap.

It took about 7 feet of wrap for about 2 feet of pipe. Hose clamp both ends.

The next day, the wraps have dried. We are ready to install.

This is some 2D animasturbation, I mean animation done in you guessed it, animation paper. Try saying that 10 times. The general character template and audio was provided, but I spiced it up by adding hairy nipples and balding patterns. Enjoy.

I got a lot of good feed back for this one back at school. I designed him and made him move. I should have put some audio, but I didn't.

This is "pillow sack" exercise. Classmates laughed, some cried, but hey, who's counting.

One of the first exercises I did in school. Face morph. I don't have a witty comment for this vid. Enjoy.

PIMP MY SHOE

These where white K swisses I drew on in 2006. There's actually some prep work you have to do before you get started. You can't just get a pen and start drawing, unless you want it to rub off a week after wearing them. I use specific pens and ink, and I bake the shoe in the oven when design is finished. Pretty fun stuff and the paint doesn't come off.

Here are some paintings I've done over the years. The way I work is by painting for people I know very well, or at least I think I do. Then I would have them give me a word, any word, as long as I like it. These paintings are of the words, "twist", "teen burger", and "polar bear". Enjoy

Done mainly in water colour. It was drawn for Catherine for her birthday back in the day as a surprise. There are 3 characters she had done in 3d and a house. What house?(tee hee)

This was for Tarn, a friend of mine at Blue Castle games. This was done for this "pimp my cubicle" contest at his work. Lime green motorcycles and "Film Noir" was the topic of discussion at the time, so it came out in the painting.

"Teen burger" 2x(18x24) 2006

It was a supposed to be a set of 3, but I smeared white paint over the 3rd one because I wasn't happy with it. These where for my father. He didn't want them. It kind of hurt but that's just what people do to you sometimes, they hurt you. Nevertheless, these paintings seem be the most popular amongst my posse. The brown you see is coffee I poured over the painting.

I exhibited my work, for the first time in my life, on March 15, at the Flavour Art Show. Being around all these artists really sparked something in my brain. As I sat at my space, I started drawing on the table, and then I started drawing on my helmet, freehand(I'm hardcore). I still have to spray on a acrylic clear coat to protect my helmet from danger.
